CHAOS turns complex location data into decision-ready intelligence for real estate and business leaders, combining 40+ Nordic data sources with our customers' own portfolio data through the CHAOS AI Spatial Engine. Founded in Helsinki in 2017, we have a working product, real revenue, and a platform vision we're just beginning to build toward.
The role
We're hiring a Head of Engineering to lead day-to-day engineering, strengthen the reliability of what we've built, and help us prove out the data layer that's the core of our moat. You'll work closely with our CPO on architecture and our CEO on priorities, owning delivery, team health, and execution, while still writing and reviewing code yourself.
This is a builder's role, not a caretaker's. As we scale, this role and its scope will grow with it, and what you put in place in the first few months becomes the foundation we build the rest of the company on.
What you'll own
Right now:
Build out the engineering practices: code review, test coverage, deployment discipline, and clear ownership across every core system
Take direct technical ownership of live enterprise engagement already underway
Grow and shape our focused engineering team, working shoulder to shoulder with our existing engineers
Own platform performance end to end, and lead the push to make it more reliable and more scalable
Build to scale:
Prove out the data ingestion and quality systems that are our actual moat, the part of this business that's genuinely hard to copy
Partner with product and commercial to understand how customers actually adopt and use what we build
Contribute to, and eventually help own, our longer-term platform and API vision
Who we are looking for
Required:
Senior engineering leadership experience (Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager, or similar) at an early-stage or growth B2B SaaS company
Genuinely hands-on: comfortable writing or reviewing code directly, not just setting direction from above
A track record of bringing reliability, ownership, and process discipline to an engineering org that's still maturing
Comfortable in technical conversations with investors or in due-diligence contexts, without owning that relationship
Full-stack fluency (e.g. React/TypeScript, Python or Node.js) and comfort with relational and spatial databases such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS
Effective communication and collaboration skills, including stakeholder engagement. Fluent English, based in or willing to work hybrid from the Helsinki region
Nice to have:
Working knowledge of ML concepts and integrating AI capabilities into products
Experience with spatial/geospatial data, data pipelines, or similarly complex data domains
Hands-on experience with GCP or equivalent cloud, CI/CD, and Agile/Scrum delivery
Familiarity with agentic AI interfaces (MCP or similar)
